Sunday Evening Ice Breaker

Peninsula, on Sunday May 11 at 6:00PM

On Sunday evening there will be an icebreaker Cocktail Party for all of the early arrivals at Esprit. Snacks will be provided by Esprit and wine, beer and cocktails will be available from the no-host bar. The party starts early in the evening and is a great time to renew old friendships and see what folks have been up to since the last Esprit.

For first-time attendees this is a fabulous time to meet people and get charged up for the coming week! The party will be held in the Peninsula room.

Years ago, the Icebreaker was held in the patio on the water side of the restaurant. The patio is slightly sunken and has glass all the way around it so that the diners in the restaurant can see the water. The attendees in 2001 promptly named it "The Fishbowl"!

This is the traditional kickoff to the week of Esprit. While this icebreaker is pretty much the same each year, Esprit definitely is not. The week is just getting started and there is a full slate of fun.

2025 Esprit Theme for SO’s and Couples: TBA

Message from Dotti Berry, Facilitator

This year’s theme, “Walking on Sunshine...Together!” is a perfect next step from last year’s theme, “Loving Who You Are!” There’s no better place to embrace this journey than in Port Angeles, WA — a truly remarkable community that has supported Esprit for over 30 years. This town’s warm embrace allows you to love who you are because they love and welcome you first.

The beautiful visual of this year’s theme captures the essence of “Walking on Sunshine...Together” — a celebration of joy, love, and that amazing feeling when

things finally start falling into place. As the song goes: “I’m walking on sunshine, and don’t it feel good!”

As I share every year, this experience is about the joy of tapping into your authentic self. I’ve had the privilege of serving as facilitator of the SO/Couples program for 22 years (and yes, I’m counting the two years we missed due to the pandemic — I was with you in spirit!). Esprit is an extraordinary opportunity for self-discovery and growth — whether you’re learning how to love and accept yourself more fully as an SO (Significant Other), someone who is transgender or questioning, or as a couple navigating this journey together.

But here’s the truth: tapping into your joy and love — walking on sunshine together — isn’t a final destination. It’s not a place you arrive at and stay forever. It’s an ongoing process — a beautiful, sometimes perplexing journey (and trust me, your facilitator feels this too!). You’ll never reach a finish line when it comes to self-love and self- discovery because there is no finish line. Life is fluid. Growth is continuous. The magic lies in embracing the journey itself.

I invite you to “Enjoy the Ride” — because it’s your ride. Your unique, evolving, sometimes bumpy, but always transformative journey. And that’s why Walking on Sunshine...Together is a lifelong experience. Every day really is a new day — and that can either work for you or against you. Whatever you believe shapes your reality. So why not choose the belief that life works for you?

One day you’ll wake up feeling unstoppable, ready to say, “Wow, I finally get it! I’m truly on my way to loving who I am!” And the next day, you might wake up, look in the mirror, and wonder, “Who ARE you?” I’ve been there myself — like when I moved 2,300 miles across the country to live with Robynne. One day, you feel like Ms. Popularity — confident and self-assured — and the next, it feels like the whole world thinks you’re falling short. But this isn’t about them — it’s about you and how you feel about yourself.

The key is learning how to quiet the voices of your inner Saboteurs — those critical, fear-based thoughts that try to derail you — and turning up the volume of your Sage, your authentic, wise self. The truth is, nobody else has the authority to determine your worth or your right to love yourself. If you’ve been giving that power away — stop it! It’s not anyone else’s job to hand you a magic wand and tell you you’re okay. That’s your job. You hold that magic wand — and it’s time to tap yourself on the head and declare, “Who I am is okay. And I love who I am!”

The most important part of Walking on Sunshine...Together is embracing the joy and love within you — because only then can you invite others to love you and truly accept

their love. This is especially important when it comes to your spouse or partner. That self-love becomes the cornerstone of a beautiful, evolving, and respectful relationship.

Many of you may already understand that being transgender is not a choice. But choosing to live authentically — to be honest with yourself and those you love — is a choice. Loving yourself and loving others is a choice too, even when it takes time. And part of that choice is inviting your spouse, partner, friends, and family to walk this journey with you.

Our program provides a safe, supportive space to reflect, explore, and empower yourself as you navigate this path. As an SO, as someone who is transgender or questioning, and as a couple, you’ll face choices — sometimes ones you don’t feel fully prepared for. This week is a chance to gain clarity, find support, and take steps forward with greater understanding and confidence.

Every relationship is unique. While we may share common threads, no two stories are exactly alike. Both the SO and the person who is transgender need empathy, patience, and space to explore their evolving selves and their relationship. Through this program, you’ll find the support you need to move beyond isolation and rediscover the you who may have felt lost along the way.

For those returning to Esprit and the SO/Couples program, you may find that your family’s story has continued evolving — and that growth is part of your journey too.

Whether you’re married or partnered with someone who’s FtM, MtF, a crossdresser, transgender, nonbinary, or genderqueer — and whether your partnership involves two people or more — Esprit’s SO/Couples program is here to help. This is a space where you can find answers to your questions, build meaningful friendships, and feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

At Esprit, everyone is welcome — whether you’re attending for the first time or the tenth. Because everyone has value. And that’s worth celebrating. Message from Dotti Berry, Facilitator

Presenter Info

Dotti Berry, CEO of Training2Transform Global Communications, was truly “Born to Coach.” This year marks her 22nd year as the facilitator of the Esprit SO/ Couples Program, where she works with both Significant Others and Couples in a journey of understanding, growth, and connection.

As a Consultant, Coach, Trainer/Facilitator, Speaker, and Certified Positive Intelligence Coach, Dotti brings a wealth of experience and heart to her work. She pursued her doctorate in Human Sexuality and studied with Brian McNaught — called the “Godfather of Gay Sensitivity Training” by The New York Times — at the Thornfield Annual Conference on Sexuality, where she completed a specialized track on corporate diversity and LGBTQ+ issues in the workplace. Dotti is a passionate advocate for the acceptance and inclusion of transgender, gender-diverse, gender- questioning and gender queer individuals, often saying: “Not only should they not be left behind — we must invite them to lead the way and take a place at the head of the table.”

In 2017, Dotti and Brian McNaught co-created “Talk With America”, a series of live hangouts designed to foster authentic, transformative conversations across divides. Their mission was to:

• Create a space for meaningful dialogue rooted in wisdom, grace, and humor.

• Compassionately listen and engage with those who hold differing attitudes and opinions.

• Respond vs. react, taking actions that reflect our deepest values. • Embrace transformation over adversarial interactions.

Dotti often reflects on the connection between Talk With America and the work done at Esprit, highlighting the importance of listening, understanding, and building bridges.

Throughout her career, Dotti has coached individuals across the expansive spectrum of gender diversity and has served as a keynote speaker at conferences. She’s facilitated groups for SOs and couples at major events like Fantasia Fair, Southern Comfort, and the International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE), in addition to her long-standing commitment to Esprit.

An accomplished author and facilitator, Dotti has worked with both youth and adults since 1985 — leading seminars and workshops for organizations, universities, corporations, religious institutions, and leadership programs. Some of the diverse groups she’s collaborated with include Sodexo, Info Quest Clinical, the Girl Scouts, NCCJ (National Conference of Community and Justice), the University of Kentucky, Women Out Front, and Soulforce. Her areas of expertise range from executive coaching, Positive Intelligence, and personal transformation to LGBTQ+ issues, diversity, team-building, and non- violent communication.

In 2005/06 Dotti, her spouse Robynne Sapp, and their beloved standard poodle Rylee Joy embarked on a year-long journey called Gay Into Straight America, dedicated to engaging hearts and minds, creating authentic connections, and transcending the differences that separate us. In 2012, they traveled throughout Washington state, speaking about the importance of the Freedom to Marry for ALL. Though they lost Rylee Joy in 2016, their family grew again with the addition of Baylee Joy, a red standard poodle who made her Esprit debut in 2017, and Willow, Baylee Joy’s mother, who joined their family in 2018. The four of them continue to bring love and joy to every adventure — including Esprit!

Elks Pool Room : Stephanie Avion Chix w Stix Pool Tournament

Jan Jefferies

Stephanie Avion Chix w Stix Pool Tournament

Organizer: Jan Jefferies

Elks Pool Room, on Monday May 12 at 6:00PM

Registration: 6pm
Play starts: 7pm

Pool tables have always gone hand in hand with adventure, vice, and women of mystery. Usually it's the men who own the room, but at Esprit things are a bit different.

Imagine a roomful of short-skirted hoochies competing fiercely for the prized title of Esprit Pool Tournament Champion. A 20's gangster moll here, a film noir femme fatale there, and a biker chick over by the bar...drop them all into a small pool hall, and you have the Annual Esprit Pool Tournament.

The Naval Elks Lodge hosts the tournament in their private pool room. There will be assistants to help run the tournament. The Elks has a no-host bar and will provide a taco bar for about $17.00.

This is a friendly tournament and everyone has plenty of opportunities to play regardless of skill level. We will follow the Official Rules of the BCA Pool League (with a few changes to better accommodate recreational play) and contact the pool tournament coordinator, if you have other questions.

Back at the Red Lion, many attendees also enjoy hanging out in the hotel bar which truly becomes one of the hottest and most interesting places in town during the week of Esprit.

The tournament was renamed in 2020/2021 in honour of Stephanie Avion, who served for many years on the Esprit Committee.

Day trip to Victoria BC and Butchart Gardens

Victoria, BC, on Tuesday May 13 at 7:30AM

Tuesday 7:30 am. Meet in Esprit Lobby. Passport or Enhanced Drivers License is required for entry to Canada and return to USA.

Victoria BC Trip and High Tea at Butchart Gardens

Costs are NOT included in your Esprit registration.

  • Ferry (round trip on MV Coho) is US$43.50/person
  • Taxi to Butchart Gardens (EACH way) CAD$55; can split between 4 passengers
  • Butchart Gardens Admission: CAD$36.50/person
  • High Tea: CAD$49.40/person

This year we will again travel to beautiful British Columbia for High Tea and a full day of sightseeing. You will want to wear your finest frock (the Gardens has a dress code) and of course a beautiful hat. An extra bag is suggested to carry walking shoes as a tour of the various gardens involves plenty of walking. When we disembark from the Coho ferry, we board a cab to convey us 14 miles north to the Gardens. There will be plenty of time to take in the Gardens either before or after High Tea.

Of course, you can join the group just for the ferry, enjoy Victoria and meet back up for the return trip.

The Gardens

The Butchart Gardens is one of the world's premier floral show gardens. Jennie Butchart began to shape this magnificent landscape in 1904. She established, in the style of the grand estates of the period, several distinct gardens to evoke a range of aesthetic experiences. An abandoned limestone quarry was transformed into the dramatic Sunken Garden, a reflection of the early 20th-century beautification movement and an exceptional achievement in Canadian gardening history. Through successive generations of the Butchart family, The Gardens has retained much of its original design, and continues the Victorian tradition of seasonally changing the outstanding floral displays covering more than twenty acres!!.

SO Program - But I'm Not a Lesbian!

Presenter: Dotti Berry

SO Lounge, on Tuesday May 13 at 9:00AM

For SO's ONLY. For the Significant Other of the transgender partner, whether such partner is male, female, or questioning.

But I’m Not a Lesbian!

When your partner explores or embraces a more feminine expression, whether through occasional crossdressing or a full-time transition, it can stir up a lot of unexpected emotions — confusion, fear, and questions about your own identity. Many SOs struggle with how society may perceive their relationship and what that means for them personally. In this session, we’ll create a safe, supportive space to address those feelings and help you understand that while your partner’s appearance may change, the essence of who they are — and why you love them — remains the same.

Blue Monday

Presenter: Karen Williams

Peninsula, on Tuesday May 13 at 2:30PM

All good things come to an end, even Esprit. After living our dreams for a week, first timers often find "the end" stunningly traumatic. We return to our homes, jobs, loved ones, and closets with a heavy heart, tears, sometimes deep depression. Karen shows first timers (and others) how to duck the worst traumas by treating ourselves well afterwards, staying in contact with friends we meet at Esprit, planning treats to look forward to, and applying bunches of additional ideas gathered over the years from sisters facing their own blue Mondays.

Presenter Info

Karen Williams has been a member of the Emerald City since 1987. She has held numerous positions including president, newsletter editor social chair and vice president. Karen has also been involved with Esprit since its inception in 1990. She has also been involved in transgender class panels at the University of Washington, Highline Community College and Peninsula College since 1992. Port Angeles Community Theatre presents "Clue: On Stage"

Port Angeles Playhouse, on Tuesday May 13 at 7:30PM

The Port Angeles Community Playhouse is delighted to welcome back Esprit members - we have loved hosting Esprit at many previous productions and would be thrilled to have you in our audience. Welcome! The Playhouse is a five minute drive from the Red Lion hotel and is easy to get to.

The Port Angeles Community Players (PACP) is thrilled to announce their upcoming production of “Clue: On Stage”, written by Sandy Rustin, based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn.

Clue: On Stage is the thrilling, laugh-out-loud, murder mystery you’ve been waiting for! Based on the classic board game and the beloved 1985 film, this live stage adaptation invites you to step into the world of secretive suspects, clever plot twists, and hilarious mayhem.

Six guests are anonymously invited under alias names to a strange mansion for dinner, but after their host is killed, they must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as the bodies pile up. Was it Colonel Mustard in the Kitchen with the Rope? Miss Scarlet in the library with the Revolver? Or perhaps it was Mr. Green in the Billiard room with the Candlestick? SO Program - Loving the Person, Not the Presentation

Presenter: Dotti Berry

SO Lounge, on Wednesday May 14 at 9:00AM

For SO's ONLY. For the Significant Other of the transgender partner, whether such partner is male, female, or questioning.

Loving the Person, Not the Presentation, and the Spectrum of Gender Expression

One of the most challenging parts of this journey is separating your partner’s gender expression from the core of who they are. Whether they crossdress occasionally or are considering or living in a full-time transition, their outer appearance is just one part of their identity.

Not every person who explores their feminine side transitions — some choose to crossdress without making a full-time change, while others may feel called to transition fully. Understanding this spectrum is key to navigating your partner’s journey without making assumptions about what’s next. We’ll discuss the unique challenges and joys of loving someone who expresses their gender in different ways and explore strategies for keeping communication open and supportive.

This session explores how to stay connected to the person you fell in love with, work through evolving dynamics, and foster deeper emotional intimacy as they express themselves more fully.

Coming Out Late - Navigating the Mental Health Challenges

Presenter: Lea Foster

Peninsula, on Wednesday May 14 at 1:00PM

My talk presents a discussion of the challenges and issues many of us face coming out late in life. After all, those who decide to present part time or transition at this stage of life are generally well established in their careers or retired, often with a partner, and with family. Coming out at this stage presents many challenges to the status quo, particularly when there is push back from friends, colleagues, family, or your partner. As many of you know, arriving at to the decision to come out is hard enough without having to negotiate your self with your community. There will be an open and frank discussion as part of my talk.

Presenter Info

Lea is a mental health professional who works with gender-questioning clients  She was a registered psychotherapist in Toronto until she moved to Vancouver in 2021. She is active in the Vancouver trans and crossdressing communities and on the organizing committee of Esprit 2025. She attended Esprit for the first time in 2024 and loved it. She is available for consultations and counselling from her Vancouver home.

Intimacy and Identity: Presenting as a Couple

As your partner’s gender expression evolves, your relationship’s emotional and physical dynamics may shift, too. Whether they dress part-time or transition full- time, these changes can impact attraction, connection, and intimacy. In this safe, supportive space, we’ll discuss how to nurture closeness, deepen understanding, and keep the spark alive through open and compassionate dialogue.

The way your partner expresses their gender can affect how the world perceives you both. Whether they crossdress occasionally or present full-time in their affirmed gender, you may face questions or reactions from family, friends, and strangers. This session focuses on navigating those external challenges as a team, presenting with confidence, and standing together in love and unity.

Transgender Personalities in History Since humankind began to define the boundaries of gender behavior, there have been people who have defied or crossed over those boundaries. Hear about some of these individuals, from centuries ago to the present day. Some of these were male to female, others were female to male. All of them have left a legacy. Brief biographies of each individual profiled are available upon request.

Talent Show Auditions

Peninsula, on Thursday May 15 at 1:00PM

The Esprit Talent Show is a fun and popular event for the performers, attendees and general public. This year’s show is being produced by the combined skills of the Esprit Committee and a number of talented volunteers. We welcome any type of act; acts in the past have included live musical performances, karaoke, stand-up comedy, magic, dramatic performance…the list goes on! We want the show overall to run about 75 minutes, so to ensure as many acts as possible have time on stage we ask that you limit your act to 5 minutes. With this limitation, and allowing for changeover and short bits between acts we hope to have time for 9-11 acts to perform. If you want to perform, here is a general idea of the production schedule and casting process:

First... SIGN UP! A sign-up sheet will be posted in the registration lobby. Tell us who you are, what you want to do, and how to contact you. If your act involves playback of any music or other technical needs, please contact the technical director Kara Connor  by using the contact page as soon as possible and get her your media or special requests. If at all possible, please get Kara or Stephanie Mitchell your media prior to the auditions.

You must attend the auditions from about 2:00-4:00pm Thursday in the Peninsula Room. You will have a chance to perform your act and update your biographical information. Keep in mind this space is pretty small compared to the Elks stage, so if your act is a big modern dance piece, you might have to pare it down for the audition!

The show will be cast and rehearsal times posted by Thursday evening. Those that are cast will be assigned a 20 minute rehearsal time for Friday afternoon. During this time you will have the chance to rehearse your act a few times, on the Elks stage, and with the sound system so you can get the feel of the stage. Okay, I know what you’re thinking, "20 Minutes to rehearse???!!?!" Keep in mind: Friday afternoon is CRAZY! We will give you 20 minutes of undivided attention to rehearse, but please be punctual, and ready to go! We have to keep on schedule, or the show staff won't have time to change their clothes for the evening! And we don’t want that to happen!

Check in with the show staff before dinner. We need to know everybody's there! Now...relax. Enjoy your dinner. Have fun! You'll need to get ready backstage before dinner ends, especially if you're one of the first acts. Maybe have someone save your dessert! Go out there and break a leg!

General specifications: The stage is about 30' wide X 12' deep. 4 wireless handheld microphones will be available. Straight or boom stands are available. 6 speaker sound system with stage monitor will be provided. If you need props or furniture beyond a chair or maybe a music stand, you are on your own!

Additional needs: 1 or 2 people to volunteer for backstage coordination/stagehand duty would be awesome! Contact the Talent Show Coordinator or the Volunteer Coordinator if you’d like to help out with the show, but don’t want to be onstage. Wear your most fashionable backstage black! You’ll look all cool talking on a headset! No experience necessary!

Presenter Info

For many years the Esprit Talent Show has been produced by Julia Lauer. She brought just the right mix of energy, skill, talent and passion to the production to raise it to a professional-quality production. The town of Port Angeles looks forward to seeing the show every year.

In 2022 due to a sudden emergency just hours before showtime Julia was unable to run the show. However, thanks to her wonderful preparations, her well-trained team carried the evening off without a hitch.

In 2023 we lost our wonderful Julia. Her team couldn't let her down, though, and from rough notes and memories and sheer determination the 2023 Talent Show went on and was as memorable as all the rest.

Beating Their Swords into Plowshares: Proposing Some Strategies for Defeating Weaponized Religion

Presenter: Melissa Morton

Peninsula, on Thursday May 15 at 4:00PM

It is no secret that claims of religious freedom have been used as a sword against transgender persons. It doesn't have to be this way. There is a case to be made that hostile acts against transgender persons do not constitute religion at all, but are merely acts of prejudiced notions. Furthermore, there is a case to be made that it is not an act of freedom to limit the freedom of others. Melissa combines law and theology in her presentation, so come and find out about the $10,000 Challenge!

Presenter Info

Melissa Morton is an attorney turned accountant (now retired) who has been interested in history for many years. Melissa graduated from Davidson College with a B.A. degree in history. While attending law school at the College of William & Mary, Melissa worked at Colonial Williamsburg as a costumed historical interpreter. From this experience she realized that the stories of people, places, and ideas do not tell themselves: they have to be told by others. Melissa occupies the narrow niche of crossdressing historical reenactors, and has become well known in the world of Civil War reenacting. She has an impressive collection of reproduction dresses from multiple eras of history.

Esprit Ascot Races

Peninsula, on Thursday May 15 at 7:00PM

The horses are real, the races are real, the fun is real! Only the money is play! Dress up in your fanciest hat - yes, there's a hat contest! (Need inspiration? Try here!)

Hone your betting skills and bring all your horse race savvy - and a healthy appreciation for the whimsical - to the Peninsula Room Tuesday night. You don't have to know anything about horse racing to have a great time! Your lovely and talented hoss boss and mistress of ceremonies Stephanie Mitchell will make sure you stay on track, regardless of what the horses get up to.

Our talented and beautiful decorators, coordinators, runners and counters are all Esprit attendees and all volunteer their time. Would you like to volunteer to help? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator now!

How it works:

We'll have a big screen onto which a series of professionally packaged, actual horse races and steeplechases will be shown (completely new races this year!). Everyone will be provided a starting amount of betting funds. In between races, you'll study the horses, check the odds, watch the horses parade before the race, and place your bets. The races are real, as is the excitement! Assorted prizes will be awarded to the evening's big winners and non-winners alike and there will be special prizes for the most outrageous and glamorous hats!

What to wear:

For fun, we encourage you to dress in the spirit of the Royal Ascot Racecourse. Think "My Fair Lady" and you'll be on the right track.

If you really want to be a stickler for the fashion police, here's how it's done: Ladies wear formal day dress and a hat that covers the crown of the head (since this is an evening event, evening wear is perfectly fine as well). Shoulders and midriff are traditionally covered and hems shouldn't be more than 2" above the knee. Stockings or tights are most proper. The Ascot is timeless and you may pick something stylish from any era.

And in our private room, you don't have to worry about your heels sinking into the turf!

Since Esprit 2000, hundreds of attendees have taken to the stage to sing a song, do a skit, maybe some standup comedy or even magic. If you would like to perform, please see the performer guidelines below. We look forward to a fun and entertaining evening for all!

The cocktail hour and dinner are for Esprit attendees only. Then we will open the doors for a suggested donation of $5.00 at the door, all proceeds will benefit Hospice of Clallam County. There will be a no-host bar serving alcohol, so guests must be 21 years of age. Esprit staff and a local security guard will provide security and screen local guests.

After the talent show you are welcome to linger at the Elks as you ponder the rest of the evening. Our very own DJ ICY ALY will be spinning dance tunes for us to dance the night away.

Cross-Gender Hormone Treatment for Gender Dysphoria

Presenter: Jennifer Burnett

Peninsula, on Saturday May 17 at 10:00AM

For those who are considering (or have already started) medical treatment to transition to their true gender, there is much information, as well as a great deal of misinformation, available on the Internet regarding the hormones/medications that are commonly employed for this purpose. This often promotes confusion as to what is the best and safest medical approach to a gender transition. This class consists of a Power Point presentation followed by a Q & A session concerning of the different hormone protocols used (for both M2F and F2M), their risks, benefits and side effects. Ancillary testing and additional/adjunct medications will also be discussed. I will also provide resource information and websites where medical providers can gain further knowledge on the treatment of Gender Dysphoria.

Saturday Keynote Luncheon

Olympic/Juan de Fuca, on Saturday May 17 at 12:00PM

The Esprit Committee is pleased to announce Zane Alvarez as our Esprit 2025 Keynote Speaker. He will share his journey being Trans in the Military and his educational support  in the Community.

Zane Alvarez (he/him) was assigned female at birth, but as a child, he prayed to become a boy. At this young age, he didn’t know what to make of these feelings, and he certainly didn’t have the words to explain it since gender issues were still far from the mainstream.

Alvarez came out as a lesbian in his teens and began dressing more masculine, but this identity still didn’t feel completely right. He graduated high school, and six years ago, he went on to join the Army as a behavioral health technician.

He was stationed in Augusta, Georgia, and one day, when a Starbucks barista accidentally addressed him as a male, it just felt right. This gave him an intense epiphany. He talked to some of his transgender friends and began to realize why something never felt right: he wasn’t a lesbian. He was a transgender man.

Dancing with The Nasty Habits

The Metta Room, on Saturday May 17 at 9:00PM

ONE NIGHT ONLY- THE NASTY HABITS AT THE METTA ROOM

Majority-trans 80’s dance band The Nasty Habits, an Esprit and Port Angeles legend has announced it will be returning to play a post-Gala set at a one-night-only special engagement at the Metta Room!

“After some uncertainty over where the majority-trans 80s dance band The Nasty Habits would play during Esprit, it's finally been settled that they'll be at The Metta Room (one of the biggest dance/music/bar nightclubs in Port Angeles). Metta had closed last year but the owner said they'd reopen if TNH was playing because of the hundreds of local PA fans who fill the bar. If you want an intense, loud, joyous dance party with supportive locals, this is the place to be.”

Esprit attendees can attend without paying a cover charge with your Esprit badge!

While not strictly an Esprit event in the past, in recognition that a majority of our attendees choose to see The Nasty Habits the Esprit Committee has chosen this as our official Post-Gala event and band for 2025!

SO Lounge : Slumber Party

Slumber Party

Organizer: Dara Vink

SO Lounge, on Saturday May 17 at 11:59PM

The Saturday night slumber party is a longstanding Esprit tradition. The Hospitality Suite begins to fill with ladies in nighties as the Saturday night graduation dinner and party draws to a close. Some snacks and pizza are usually available (as are a lot of leftover beverages that come crawling out of people's rooms). The room is usually filled to capacity and the evening is filled with lively moderated conversation, backrubs and footrubs, and more. A few diehards haul blankets and pillows to the room and stay as late as they can. The slumber party sets aside some time to share your experiences in a warm and respectful setting.

And who knows who else might show up? In 1999, a barbershop quartet was passing through the hotel late at night and stumbled onto the Saturday night slumber party. Doing what any gentlemen would do, they politely greeted the ladies in the hall and then proceeded to serenade the ladies with an impromptu performance.

You're welcome to wear anything in good taste and reason to the party. Some ladies simply pop in after the Saturday night party in their party outfits, chat for a few minutes, and disappear. Some choose to attend the slumber party in makeup; others choose to be comfortable and get cleaned up and dispense with the bra, wig, and other accessories they normally use when dressed. You may wish to lean somewhat to the more practical side if you plan on staying a while. Most of the seating consists of simple upright chairs, the floor, a counter, pillows/blankets, and perhaps a few seats on a sofa. You may be standing up and sitting down and shifting position frequently depending on how crowded the room gets and the activities that are going on. In addition, you may want to wear or bring something (such as a robe) that allows you to comfortably walk the length of the hotel to get back to your room for supplies or blankets.

Presenter Info

I attended my first Esprit in 1999 and spent subsequent years trying new things. This has included volunteering at the Registration Desk, being a Big Sister, performing in the Talent Show, maintaining the Esprit website for a number of years, serving on the Scholarship Committee, and helping to plan Esprit each year. My main excitement at Esprit is rocking out with The Nasty Habits on the final weekend.

My other interests range from the dark to the sublime. On my shelves you'll find dark, disturbing movies and light-hearted children's books side by side. I love costumes, Play-Doh, and blowing into my dog's mouth to make her lips flap. I'm an open-mic storyteller and my stories about life, love, and being have been presented at professional and technical conferences around the country.

I transitioned in 2011 and am proud to work at AT&T Mobility, a company that has earned top honors from Diversity Inc. and 100% rating from HRC year after year, even against constantly evolving best-in-class measures of transgender benefits. If you're curious about how a best-in-class company carries out diversity policies, take a look here and here.
